The throat chakra is the chakra of expression, helping you to understand, express your inner truth, and be creative. The throat chakra is the center of communication, not just speech, but also thought and telepathy. This is the gateway to spiritual healing. When the throat chakra is in balance, we speak, listen, and express ourselves openly and authentically. The throat chakra is the first of the three higher, more spiritual chakras.
Location
The location of the 5th chakra is at the throat and neck area.
How an Unbalanced Throat Chakra Manifests in the Body
Physical problems include losing your voice, ear infections, coughing, bronchitis, sore throat, mouth ulcers, TMJ, tight shoulder, neck pain, asthma, or hearing problems.
Signs of an Overactive Throat Chakra
This can manifest as interrupting others often, being overly loud, lying, gossiping, non-stop talking, and being verbally abusive. An overactive throat chakra can make a person critical, judgmental, and have a condescending attitude, and an inability to listen to others. It can lead you to become your own and others’ worst critic. You may experience struggles in your relationships because of the way you communicate.
Physical problems include sinuses, sore throat, jaw pain-TMJ, voice loss, thyroid problems, teeth and gum problems, and ailments of the esophagus and tonsils.
Signs of an Underactive Throat Chakra
When your throat chakra is underactive it can contribute to feelings of insecurity, timidity, introversion, and disconnects you from your authentic self. When out of balance you tend to ignore your inner voice, feel afraid of expressing yourself, and have trouble listening to others.
How to Balance the Throat Chakra
Balance this chakra by sitting in a quiet place and taking deep cleansing breaths.
If you have an underactive throat chakra, chant “I speak,” and chant the Bija mantra below.
If you have an overactive throat chakra just listen to music and don’t chant.
As you do this call forth the blue energy of intention. Imagine it as a spinning blue wheel or lotus flower.
